On the Mend!!!

yep! after a long night last night and an equally long morning i packed up the troops and brought zach in to the clinic this afternoon- he was still hurting a lot and was throwing up so much he couldnt keep anything down- and he was supposed to be drinking a lot to flush everything out and so we werent making a lot of progress :( luckily his dr is one of the nicest guys in the world and he switched some of his meds around and zach is doing so much better now- i think he is actually going to be able to get some sleep tonight! he hasnt been throwing up and he has been drinking a lot and even ate food tonight :) sawyer was so well behaved at the clinic and has been good all day making it easier for me to take care of both my boys- i told him when he woke up that daddy didnt feel good so he needed to be especially good today- i guess he listens to his mama :) also im back to doing no dairy again- i wasnt sure if that was what made his poo look so icky but now im pretty convinced it is...im only cutting the major dairy products- milk, cheese, ice cream, ect. and not worrying about "hidden dairy" because then its possible that i might starve to death...you would be surprised if you start looking at labels how much stuff has milk listed- its usually listed in bold as an allergy alert after the ingredient list and its on seriously evvvvvvvvverything! try to eat a few days with no dairy products- trust me you will miss them- i especially will miss pistachio ice cream :( yummy. i will see you again in 10 months my friend. ( i might try to reintroduce dairy to my diet at 6 months- i guess babes grow out of this allergy pretty fast- then i would only have 4 months of no dairy! and yes- i plan to breastfeed to age one as recommended by the american academy of pediatrics- PLUS sawyer loves to nurse and i let him do things he loves :) its obvious by the fact that he has almost doubled in size in two months. and formula = expensive and i think it smells icky. my milk is free! thats like the best deal ever and i love a deal :)

Zach's Sympathy Labor

...was really a kidney stone! yes, poor hubby has a kidney stone! he woke up about 6 this morning and told me his back hurt REALLY bad- worse than ever before- so i do what any good wife/nurse would do and chuck two extra strength tylenol at him while still half asleep. he gets up and takes a warm bath-which never before have i seen him do- i wake up a bit more and start to feel bad for him- he cleaned the bathroom floor on his hands and knees for me yesterday :( and he says he feels like he pinched a nerve since it just hurts RIGHT HERE in this one spot on his left side- nurse mode kicks in- im awake and paying attention now..i feed sawyer who SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT again- (which is the second night in a row now!!!) and get zach an ice pack and a heating pad and icy hot--he starts puking and saying its the worst he has ever felt! so here i am hounding him- are you puking because your back hurts or because you have the flu!! thinking to myself im not bringing him to MY ER if he just has the flu- we make fun of people who do that!! he starts acting like i did when i was in labor- with the heavy breathing and everything so i force him into the car and pack sawyer up and drive to the er- zach says he would like his epidural now on the way there- know the feeling buddy. thankfully two of the nicest nurses i work with were there today and we were the only ones there when we arrived- zach had enough morphine to KILL a horse and was still hurting- i literally gave less morphine to a patient who broke his elbow so bad his bone stuck out his skin... zach wasnt drowsy, loopy, or pain free! after some fentanyl he was finally feeling better and is now snoozing on the couch..with not one but TWO kidney stones on the left side...i told him now he knows what i had to go through in labor! thank goodness for jen and dr. d! i was so glad it was them when we got there! sawyer was well behaved the whole time- we are all worn out now from being up earlier than usual this morning- and despit sawyer sleeping through the night- i still dont sleep well because i wake up and check on him- he slept until 730 today- amazingness! we are all going to take it easy tody- and im going to baby all my boys today and feel glad that when i was in that much pain i was rewarded with the most beautiful son- while zach is only going to get a calcified chunk of pee stone...

Little big boy

sawyer had his two month checkup today and he has gained 6 pounds since birth! he was 12lb 14 oz today (6lb 14oz and 19 inches at birth) which put him at the 82nd percentile for weight. he was 23 3/4 inches and at the 79th percentile for height- he might have some hope after all for not being a shrimp like me! his head was still tiny - 7th percentile! crazy! dr. w said its nothing to worry about since it has been consistent and that zach and i probably have small heads...he also said not to worry about the green poo as long as sawyer stays happy. i did say before he was born i didnt want him to have a giant head! well he dosent! sawyer did very well and even gave april the nurse lots of smiles. he had to get three shots which was really not as bad as i anticipated..he calmed down right away when i nursed him and fell asleep long enough for me to run over to the ER to drop off thank you notes from my shower and photocopy the sched. YIKES! im back on the newest sched! april 21 is my 1st day back. once we got home he smiled and acted like nothing had even happened!
as usual sawyer was a big hit in the clinic and the ER- people just love babies! a cute little girl who was probably 2 years old saw him and said "baby!" very happily- so adorable! yesterday at walmart a little girl blew him a kiss :) he didnt seem to notice- either that or he isnt into redheads..im not sure.
we had a fabulous shower last night with zachs aunts/ cousins and it was a blast. sawyer was very happy/ not fussy and got lots of adorable stuff- zach always calls it "stash" when we get home from a shower and he is always amazed at how much stuff we get at showers- we are blessed! one of his aunts and cousins picked him out a swing for the yard and im so glad- i put that on our registry with zach in mind and he was really excited about it when he unloaded the car. he cant wait untill sawyer can play in the yard with him and cooper dog (which of course is what they did while we were at the shower). right now zach is in the process of helping the little steam drain better...or something.
now sawyer is napping on my tummy and i fully intend upon letting him- he had a big day and im all about attachment style parenting :)

2 months old!

one week old for comparison...

for comparison this is sawyer at ONE month old

2 months old

yes you are a loved baby!

you are so handsome!

i really cant believe that my LITTLE BABY is two months old already...i just cant! it dosent seem possible that two months have gone by already. sawyer has celebrated his "birthday" by refusing to nap except in my arms and by filling his shorts literally 1 minute after i changed his diaper and then giving me a large smile...lovely darling, its your day we can celebrate however you want. he is smilling like crazy on my lap right now and "telling me a story". he has really found his hands in the past day or two and loves sucking his fists and arms! he has to get his two month shots on friday...im already sad just thinking about it. i am getting curious to see how much he weighs now though..he seems so much bigger. im betting his head is a lot bigger too :)

as a side note my stupid computer is making my facebook not work...so irritating- anyone else or is it really just my computer doing it?

thats about all the fun for today-sawyer and i are going to run to the store- i have a coupon for 2 bucks off two filet mignons and since having sawyer and nursing him i have been a serious carnivore-devouring steak like its my job! ok steak and anything in its path actually-im starving! i can eat more than zach now as well as downing 100+ ounces of water a day easily..sometimes probably approaching 120 oz or more- the good news is nursing burns 500 calories a day and i was back to pre baby weight 7 weeks ago so i do what i want :) plus there is some easter candy just calling my name all the way from fareway....

Videos for Aunt Anna

Im putting videos for Aunt Anna...she misses Sawyer and who could blame her!

Anna: Ok, Im giving it a try on Mom's computer...im hoping it will be faster than our million year old laptop. So far it is still taking a long time...so Im not sure how many videos I will be able to get up for you! Ill try to get the tummy time one up since he couldn't really hold his head up when you were here a month ago! I think he has really changed a ton-which is fun and scary at the same time! He is getting so big so fast! He has outgrown all of his newborn sized outfits and I think the newborn pants look small now too- he does have newborn onesies that still fit fine- which is weird considering that he also fits pretty darn well into his 0-3 month sized stuff. He does have 0-3 jammies that are still to big for him though...im thinking he is probably gonna be right on for sizes of clothes and age. Right now he is getting lots of attention from Grandpa and Grandma...they are "practicing" for when they watch him- mom is telling him when he gets bigger she will let him eat a banana..lol. I have to go back to work in a month and I don't want to leave him! Boo!

Annnnnnnnnnnd moms computer didnt work...we are back home now so we will try again. Success!!! Here is sawyer doing tummy time- his neck is getting really strong!

and here is one to make you laugh- cooper did tummy time too- right after sawyer. what a silly boy.

sawyer loves his mobile so much! im just glad he seems happy in his crib. this is what he does while i shower. he makes a funny pouty face in the beginning of this one. is it bad i think his pouty face is so cute and i take pictures of him when he is fussing!

this is him playing with his playmat but ill try to get a better one for you tomorrow...he was tired and only wanted to look at the mirror so its not a super exciting video...i uploaded it on accident actually but since they take so long im gonna leave it up for you anyways.

this is another video of him after he got dressed this morning. not quite as fun as the one from a few days ago but he kicks around and you can kinda tell how big he is getting!

and this is sawyer smiling at grandma today when we got to their house- i think you can hear her telling him not to be sad if grandma ever babysits him...unlike his momma when she was little and the grandma bad girl incident...

I think thats all I have for today...ill try to get you a good playmat video, and a bath time video and maybe a bumbo seat video soon too- ill try to get them tomorrow for his 2 month birthday but might not put them up tomorrow since they take a long time to upload...but who knows, maybe ill have time tomorrow while he eats...
Thursday we have our last baby shower...i love baby showers. Im excited. Tonight Zach went to meetings for work and got to eat steak and lobster..i ate a quesadilla at 830...SOOOOOOOO not fair! Ok, so i was craving a quesadilla but STILL its not lobster.
Aunt Anna, we hope the videos make you miss us less! Not much exciting going on here tonight-Sawyer just punched Zach in the eye and then sneezed right in his face- ha daddy!
ooooooooooooh! boo-yah, zach was holding him and i kid you not he cried "mama" i know it wasnt on purpose or that he even knows im called mama but it was too funny- zach and i just stared at eachother shocked.. guess he loves me :)

Pleasant Weekend

We had a very pleasant weekend at our house! some of our good friends were in town and we enjoyed spending the weekend hanging out. sawyer enjoyed all the attention- he loved our friend megan! he made her hold him in the same position until her wrist hurt- he would get fussy if she tried to change positions- poor megan! she didnt seem to mind :) sawyer is the first baby in both of our fanilies, and our group of friends so he gets to be the center of attention quite a bit- it makes me laugh to see him surrounded by a group of our friends or family entertaining everyone with his charming smiles and coos for example....

here is sawyer being entertained by some of our friends singing to him- he loved it, i think it was george strait or rap at this point...

in bad news i think i have to cut out dairy-i think it gives sawyer green poo and makes him have a belly ache- its way harder than it might seem- i NEED ice cream and cheese...i havent had much dairy for two days though and sawyer didnt seem to have any tummy aches today

we also got more seeds for our garden tonight and zach is happy because our tomatoes have sprouted- our dining room table has been taken over by our seedlings! the warm weather is getting us excited for our big garden!

What a Wonderful World

Sawyer has been smiling more and more over the last month which has been so much fun. Im hoping the video upload works- it is Sawyer hiccuping and cooing at me when he woke up a few days ago after I got him dressed. All I was doing was telling him "hi" and "good morning" and he was loving it!
zach loves playing with Sawyer and trying to get him to grin. Sawyer has also really found his voice and greets me happily with a multitude of coos every morning- nothing could be better. ive also seen him roll onto his right side a few times all on his own and his neck is getting much stronger. he is changing and growing so much! zach is convinced he is going to be an early talker because he babbles to us so much already- he loves to be talked to and sang to. this morning he fell asleep as we danced and sang to the ipod- he fell asleep to john mayer and louie armstrong's "its a wonderful world" it was the sweetest thing until.... MY FRIENDS GOT A GIRLFRIEND AND HE HATES THAT- omygosh quick next song- i think its time to get those baby einstein cds loaded on there...

in other household news, the crazy window attacking cardinal from last spring is back at it again attacking our windows...maybe it will eat some of the billion asian beatles that are also attacking the sliding door to the deck..wouldnt that be nice :) also we got a roku netflix box which lets us watch the instant netflix right on our tv whenever we want and zach is pretty much in love with it- its pretty fabulous actually, and really easy to use- and there are some pretty decent movies and tv series on there for free- plus you can watch pretty much any movie or show off of amazon if you want to buy them- its fun, and free with our netflix which is so neat!

Im thinking the video worked! Enjoy!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

just wanted to share those adorable spd pics! sawyer, cooper and i celebrated by taking a walk to the library with gamma to return some books. sawyer was tired and made it to the library but ended up riding home in the baby bjorn and he loved it and just looked around as we walked. it was gorgeous out today! We also stopped by the store on the way home and despite minimal napping today he was cheerful as i grabbed some steaks to grill for dinner- too nice of a day not to grill! when we got home zach and cooper were already out working in the yard burning off the brush so new stuff can grow. yay spring!

Growing "Soy Beans"

well, i don't figure i'll actually post everyday- and to throw this out there, i don't plan to use many capital letters or correct spellings/punctuation- its not my strong suite to begin with and its substantially worse now that i only ever have one free hand to type with. sorry but bambino needs to eat and i like to multi-task. think about it. currently he is fighting a nap...hard. i dont know where he gets his dislike for naps- i believe both zach and i were both champion nappers just a few years ago in college, maybe Sawyer didnt get the memo on that one. really i cant complain though, he has done great at night since he was just a few days old. and really i just wanted to post because i think i did a great job of "cutening" up my page and im proud of myself for figuring it out so quickly and to put up a few one week photo shoot pics.
a little update on us: Zach and i were realizing a few days ago that last year this time we were on spring break in panama city..great time- vastly different than where we are in our lives right now. along with this though, zach realized that a year ago we already had nice, inch high tomato seedlings growing in our windowsill pots and this year we hadnt started them yet! a quick trip to the store solved that problem and we are the proud parents of not only our sweet little "soy bean", but little sweet basil sprouts, along with cilantro sprouts and of course our fav. tomatoes- which to zachs dismay have yet to sprout. he is planning a much bigger garden for us this year and we have lettuce, cantelope, beans, carrots, radishes, zuchini, squash and my pick, pumpkins, waiting to be planted when the weather improves. i think there will prob end up being peppers somewhere in the mix as well. i know zach also wants to get some fruit trees growingl so we can have our own little "orchard" at the bottom of the yard, and im excited to see how sawyers weeping willow fom grandma and papa does once its warmer out! i love being able to enjoy our yard so much- i always feel very joyful in our yard and i think thats what makes me love our house so much- it really is such a perfect fit for us and i look forward to sawyer growing up here and playing in the yard and the creeks with cooper dog, building tree forts with zach and talking nature walks on the paths behind the house. sawyer has already been able to go for a few stroller rides and seems to enjoy the outdoors! anyways enough for now, really i wanted to share a few of sawyers one week photo shoot pictures that paul took to show off how good he did when he told me that he didnt think he got any good pictures- sawyer was not cooperative that day to put it mildly...he did make some goofy faces in a lot of the pictures but here are a few i love- and these are unedited. and if anyone needs sweet pics taken ive got p's number! the last one and the one i put in the header are my faves! i cant believe how tiny he was!

Welcome Sawyer William and To Our Blog

7 weeks old and getting so big!

Brand Spankin' New :)

We welcomed our adorable baby boy home 7 weeks ago and he has changed so much in those seven weeks! We will try to post updates on our family as often as possible.

Sawyer William Van Wyk arrived at 5:57 am on Sunday January 25 after 26 long hours of labor- but only 6 of which we spent in the hospital. He was one week overdue by dates, but I went into labor on my ultrasound due date (and the day my mom guessed he would arrive- she laughed when i told her i had been having contractions since 4:30 that morning) and he arrived the next morning on the day grandpa Erv predicted he would come all along! I was scheduled to be induced that Tuesday if he didn't show up by then and I was disapointed- I wanted to go into labor on my own! The day before I went into labor I spent shopping with my mother in law hoping the walking could stir something up- and that evening zach and our friends and I got Mexican food. I was very uncomfortable and felt huge..I was more than ready to meet our son. I woke up at 4:30 am having contractions and I knew they felt different than all the braxton hicks I had been having for days. At 6:15 I told Zach I didn't want him to go to work that morning...he was excited but then fell back asleep.
We decided after 20 hours of laboring at home it was time to go to the hospital as I was getting more and more uncomfortable. We showed up at about midnight- and I was only 3cm dilated and had already been at a 1 before labor! I was uncomfortable and not pleased at how slow things seemed to be going. Two hours later- I was one more cm dilated at a four and after having been awake for 22 hours in labor I was exhausted- our dr. broke my water to speed things along. I had been handling my contractions just fine on my own until then- wow. I got my epidural 30 min later- that was a rough 30 minutes waiting for him to arrive- turns out I had gone from 4cm to complete and ready to push BEFORE my epidural and prob. could have done without...but the relief was amazing for me! At 5:57 am our son Sawyer William entered the world. It was the most amazing thing Zach and I had ever experienced and still is- he brings us so much joy every single day. He smiles and coos now and it is so much fun to interact with him- and he has been doing great at night which is a blessing! He was 6lb 14oz at birth and is about 11.5 pounds already! He is changing so much!
